Brad Spellberg, MD

Dr.

Brad Spellberg, MD

is the Founder, CEO, President, and Chair of the Steering Committee at WikiGuidelines.org. He is a highly accomplished medical professional and researcher. He currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer at the Los Angeles General Medical Center. He obtained his BA in Molecular Cell Biology-Immunology from UC Berkeley and went on to attend medical school at UCLA, where he received numerous academic honors. Dr. Spellberg completed his Residency in Internal Medicine and subspecialty fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.


In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Spellberg is actively involved in research and teaching. He has received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for his diverse research interests, which include basic immunology, vaccinology, clinical and outcomes research, and process improvement related to the delivery of care in safety net hospitals. His laboratory research focuses on understanding the immunology, vaccinology, and host defense against highly resistant bacterial and fungal infections.


Dr. Spellberg is also an accomplished author. He has written the award-winning book "Rising Plague," which aims to educate the public about the crisis of antibiotic-resistant infections and the lack of antibiotic development. His most recent book, "Broken, Bankrupt, and Dying," critically examines the US healthcare system and proposes transformative solutions to improve health outcomes, reduce costs, and enhance economic competitiveness.

Jessica Moore, PharmD, MS, BCPS, BCIDP

is the Secretary & Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Wikiguidelines.org. She did Bachelors of Biochemistry at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and then Masters in Biochemistry from University of Southern California (USC). She completed her Doctor of Pharmacy from USC as well. She is Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) and also Board Certified Infectious Diseases Pharmacist (BCIDP).


Dr. Moore's professional health care journey began in 2012 as a Clinical Pharmacist at various hospitals, establishing a strong foundation for her career. She then moved to Providence, where she worked as an Infectious Disease and Critical Care Pharmacist. This role allowed her to deepen her expertise, particularly in treating infectious diseases and managing critical care patients. Her career further advanced at MemorialCare, where she served as a Clinical Research Pharmacist Coordinator and held the esteemed role of an IRB Member, highlighting her commitment to ethical research and patient safety.


Currently, Dr. Moore is making significant contributions as an Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Pharmacist Coordinator at Desert Regional Medical Center, reflecting her profound clinical knowledge and leadership abilities. Her career trajectory portrays her as a dedicated healthcare professional, well equipped for future challenges. With her extensive knowledge and experience, Dr. Moore is exceptionally well-positioned to elevate her current role to the next level. Her track record of success in past positions lends confidence to her ability to make significant contributions in her future endeavors.

Michael Floyd, CPA

is the Treasurer & CFO at WikiGuidelines.org. Mr. Floyd embodies a seasoned serial entrepreneur boasting over 15 years of dedicated experience in steering the development of nascent biopharmaceutical enterprises focused on infectious diseases, oncology, and rare diseases. His journey commenced by establishing Neurologic, a pioneering venture that acquired NIH-licensed technology for an Alzheimer's disease diagnostic test. Notably, he played a pivotal role as a co-author in devising the blueprint for the esteemed Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute in collaboration with the Honorable Jay Rockefeller and Johns Hopkins University.


During his tenure at Arpida, Mr. Floyd assumed the role of CEO for the North American subsidiary, orchestrating the comprehensive phase 3 initiative for an MRSA drug, culminating in a successful NDA submission. Later, he spearheaded the US efforts for Gentium, SpA, diligently rectifying the NDA for defibrotide.

In his capacity as the Founder or co-Founder of Bio-AIM, Exbaq, and Elion Oncology, Mr. Floyd champions groundbreaking initiatives. Notably, Bio-AIM is propelling the development of a monoclonal antibody targeting Acinetobacter baumannii, while Exbaq focuses on pioneering therapies for Gram-negative pathogens. Additionally, his involvement in Elion Oncology marks another significant milestone.


Mr. Floyd's academic journey commenced with a BSBA in accounting from Georgetown University, leading him to a distinguished career in public accounting as a CPA. Throughout the first 15 years of his professional journey in finance and accounting, he ascended through various roles, shouldering escalating responsibilities.

Emily McDonald, MDCM, MSc

is a Member of the Board of Directors & Steering Committee at WikiGuidelines. Dr. McDonald is an Associate Professor of Medicine in General Internal Medicine and the Scientific Director of the Canadian Medication Appropriateness and Deprescribing Network. She completed medical school, fellowship and a Masters in Epidemiology at McGill University and post-graduate training in patient safety and quality improvement at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre as well as the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health program in clinical effectiveness.



Dr. McDonald’s research focuses on drug safety and effectiveness with a particular emphasis on polypharmacy, appropriate prescribing, and deprescribing in older adults. She has received funding from the Canadian Institutes for Health Research and the Centre for Aging and Brain Health Innovation for ongoing pragmatic randomized controlled trials investigating drug dosing and safer prescribing. She is the co-inventor of MedSafer, a software that guides clinicians and patients through the process of deprescribing.

Dr.

Arun. R Patel, MD, JD, MBe

is the Member Board of Directors at WikiGuidelines.org. Dr. patel is a highly accomplished physician, attorney, and healthcare executive dedicated to improving patient safety, quality of care, and compliance in the healthcare industry. He currently serves as the System Director of Patient Safety and Clinical Risk Management for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS), the second largest municipal healthcare system in the United States. In this position, Dr. Patel oversees innovative system-wide patient safety initiatives, safety data collection and reporting, and responses to claims and liability matters.


During his time at the DHS, Dr. Patel has also served as the System Director of Quality Improvement, the System Director of Pharmacy Services, the System Chief Compliance Officer, and the Associate Chief Medical Officer of LAC & USC Medical Center. In addition to his administrative duties, Dr. Patel continues clinical practice by seeing newborns in the nursery at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center.


Dr. Patel is a passionate advocate for patient safety and has been instrumental in developing and implementing high reliability practices based on a culture of trust, support, and transparency to foster collaboration and continuous improvement among staff and clinicians.


During his time as a RWJF Health Policy Fellow, Dr. Patel served on the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee, advising on reauthorization of the Prescription Drug User Fee Act, and in the Policy Counselor’s Office of the Secretary of the Dept. of Health and Human Services, advising on various public health and health care delivery issues. Prior to those roles, Dr. Patel spent nearly a decade as a healthcare transactions and compliance attorney.


Dr. Patel received his Bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, M.D. from the University of Mississippi, and J.D. from Stanford University. He also holds a Master’s of Bioethics degree from the University of Pennsylvania. His unique perspective and expertise have made him a sought-after speaker, having presented at national conferences on topics related to healthcare quality, patient safety, and risk management, and a thought leader in the healthcare industry.
