WikiGuidelines
With the humility of uncertainty
WikiGuidelines is a non-profit organization founded in 2022 to provide an alternative, more humble and equitable approach to developing clinical guidelines. Traditional clinical guidelines intend to help standardize patient care. Unfortunately, as we described in detail in a recent publication in Annals of Internal Medicine, such guidelines are often written by a select group of subspecialty academicians who practice in tertiary/quaternary care academic medical centers, and they often issue strong recommendations based on low quality data, or even just based on their opinions. From historical examples, we have repeatedly learned the painful lesson that recommendations based solely on expert opinion or using low quality data have led to patient harm. Therefore, it is critical that guidelines possess the humility of uncertainty in the absence of hypothesis-confirming evidence.
WikiGuidelines Participant Collaboration
WikiGuidelines seeks to address care in all diverse settings and provide opportunities for qualified clinicians around the world to participate in guideline drafting. We create opportunities for experienced practitioners to collaborate as well as for new clinicians to gain experience in literature analysis and guideline development. Your donation will provide participants with the tools they need to coordinate and communicate around the world.
